What's up with that???
I have been annoyed by a certain driving technique that many people seem to employ that I just don't understand. Why do drivers who are turning left from one street into another or into a parking lot pull to the right first? This morning on my way into work, I was driving on a road with 2 lanes in each direction and the person in the left lane was turning left into a gas station and had pulled to the right so far, that he was actually over the white line and into the right hand lane some. I could see it if the driver needed to avoid something, but this was not the case. He was just making a simple left turn. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to use this as a lesson in patience.

This is definitely one of my pet peeves.
People leaving spam comments is another pet peeve! But I agree with CRCHAIR. I think the idea is that they'll get a better angle around the corner, but I don't quite understand that logic either.
I was just thinking that this practice might have started in the olden days before power steering was an option. (Yes, I remember when power steering was something extra you paid for!) The turning radius was much less and the car was much less responsive - and it took MUSCLES to maneuver a large car. ;-)
Now that all cars have power steering, it is just a driving technique that has been passed down, whithout the passers or passees knowing why.
