I've always prefered a lighter bat personally. I find that I get a faster swing and thus more distance out of the ball. It also feels better during the swing than a heavier bat that pulls me around rather than vice versa.
Personally, I have always preferred to let someone else bat, while I sit on the sidelines, take pictures, and eat hot dogs. But then, maybe I am just weird. ;-)
